Role:
Music Composer/Nattuvangam (cymbals)

Based in Singapore, Aravinth is a brilliant musician, who specializes in playing the Veena (a stringed instrument similar to the sitar). A Bharatha Natyam dancer in his youth, this knowledge enables him to compose music for dance with an acute understanding of the choreographers’ vision. Aravinth composes music for many productions in Singapore, which have also been used by foreign companies. He has performed in India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Australia. Aravinth is a recipient of the prestigious Young Artist Award 1999, given by the National Arts Council of Singapore. The success of the Lingalayam Dance Company’s 1999 season Nitya Sumangali - The Temple Dancer - the first to have live musical accompaniment - was in no small measure due to the brilliant musical score by Aravinth. He also composed the musical scores for Lingalayam’s productions between 2000 and 2003: Serpent Woman, The Courtesan’s Daughter, Sthree and Earth & Fire.

The onstage orchestra, led by Aravinth Kumarasamy, is full of character and an integral part of the production, keeping everything going at a cracking pace.
