Having accomplished Canberra's first Arangetram in the Bharatha Natyam style with Nandana Chellappah in 1998, Jennifer's love for Indian classical dance saw her move to Sydney in 1999 to further her tutelage under Anandavalli. Her passion and dedication for this art form saw her mature into a fervent performer, creating her own special niche within the Lingalayam Dance Company. Highlights have included playing the role of Sita in the 2003 production of Earth and Fire, playing the snake goddess in 2005's restaging of Serpent Woman and dancing at events such as the AFI Awards. Under the auspice of Anandavalli, Jennifer trained at the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai for three months in 2004, receiving instruction in the fundamentals of the Kuchipudi style from Vempati Ravi Shankar. She was also fortunate in being able to undertake private study with Bharatha Natyam dancer, Priyadarsini Govind, specifically focusing on mime. She has pursued contemporary expressions of her art at The Choreographic Centre working with Kuchipudi artist, Niki Shepherd, and has been involved with The Migrant Project presented by CuriousWorks working with dancers and musicians from a variety of artistic and cultural traditions. In April 2005 Jennifer was involved in staging and performing in Tarangini, a concert for charity with fellow dancers from Lingalayam. Having completed an acting course at The Actor's Centre she is currently pursuing postgraduate study in Australian History. Jennifer is combining skills she gained working atCanberra Theatre Centre and Powerhouse Museum through participation in the MAPD (Multicultural Arts Development) Program to assist in the administration and publicity of the Elephant House Project.
